It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of a great man. Mr. Carl Stafford was an integral part of the success Cecil County Fair for over 38 years. He was also a leader in the agricultural community in both Delaware and Maryland. He helped the fair grow from a four day event in 1970 that brought 16,000 visitors to a nine day event that brings almost 90,000 visitors to the Cecil County Fairgrounds in Fair Hill. His quiet, yet firm leadership gave the fair the direction it needed to become an annual tradition that has been shared by families and friends for many generations. The fair would not be the same if it were not for Mr. Carl's foresight and leadership. In 2004, the Stafford pavilion was dedicated in his honor. Mr. Carl will be truly missed by not only the Fair Board members, but the entire Cecil County community.
